Meet Francis

Meet Francis. He is in the sixth grade, and just transferred to Daylight last year. Francis favorite subject at Daylight is Mathematics. And he loves milking the Daylight cows every morning before school with Michael Kimpur’s son Yatich. Francis’ dream job is to one day be the President of Kenya!

The teachers at Daylight are encouraging Francis every step of the way. And Francis needs that extra encouragement because he has some significant challenges to overcome. Last year, his aunt brought Francis to Daylight because she was unable to care for him after Francis’ father passed away.

Seeing Francis on Daylight’s campus, run between class, cattle pen, debate team practice, and the soccer field, you would have no idea he has had a hard past. It is with your support that Francis and other children like him have been given the opportunity for a better future, and empowered to become leaders in their community, to perhaps one day become President and change the violent and poor condition of rural Kenya.

Recently, I featured Francis in a sermon I gave to one of our partner churches, Edina Morningside Community Church. To learn more about Francis, read the sermon: “Heroes for Life: Jesus, Batman, and Michael Kimpur.” And to hear more stories from my recent trip to Daylight in Kenya, I invite you to:
